1. Discuss the spiritual growth of the Church during the 4th and 6th century.
-During the 4th-6th century of the Catholic faith, monasticism was prominent in the spiritual growth of the Church. Monasticism is a lifestyle of communal living centered on prayer, fast, work, and learning. St. Martin of Tours helped spread a monastic movement to the West, and found a monastery in Poitiers in 362. St. Benedict of Nursia and his twin sister St. Scholastica guided the lives of the monks in the monasteries and the nuns of the convent.
2. What are the contributions of the Fathers of the Church?
- The fathers of the church were writers of the eight century of the Church.
-the father s of the church is two groups, Latin Fathers, mostly in the Church of the west, and Greek fathers in the east; also were the last Fathers of the Church.
- Like Saint Augustine of Hippo was one of the Latin fathers who cared for others in northern Africa and known as the Doctors of the Church.
-Saint Ambrose of Milan also a Latin Faiths called the members of the clergy to live lives of spiritual discipline and reminded the emperor Theodosius that he is not above and greater than the Church for he is only within it.
3. Compare the works of St. Sylvester I and Pope St. Leo the Great
Pope Sylvester I was a symbol of the Church living in the new found freedom. However, Pope Leo the great was a great preacher and defender of the Church’s freedom. Pope Leo the great affirmed that his own authority as pope was the same authority that Jesus gave to Saint Peter the apostle. Although both had different ways of teaching, they had a big impact on Catholic religion in Rome.
