Religion Anthology 2011

You will integrate reading, writing, poetry, analyzing skill and technology into this activity.

Your anthology must include all of the following items in the order given

Ø  A cover page which includes your name and a picture of yourself.  Write your personal motto (short saying that describes or explains your philosophy of life such as Let Go and Let God)

Ø  Your personal Mission Statement – you may use Good Shepherd’s Mission Statement as a guide (posted in the classroom).  Your Mission statement should state your goals and objectives for creating this anthology.

Ø  About me  – a personal look- in which you introduce yourself, your likes and dislikes, personal things that you would like to share

Ø  About me – a spiritual look-in which you talk about your relationship with God and your views on religion

Ø  Putting the puzzle together – the way you mingle your temporal (earthly) life with your spiritual life is like a puzzle – reflect on this idea and create your puzzle noticing the blanks and spaces yet to be filled

Ø  Favorite scripture verse- Old Testament

o   Select your favorite verse and explain why it is special to you

o   Re-word the verse in your own words and explain why it is suited to today’s issues and discuss how it brings you closer to God

Ø  Favorite scripture verse – New Testament

o   Select your favorite verse and explain why it is special to you

o   Re-word the verse in your own words and explain why it is suited to today’s issues and discuss how it brings you closer to God

ü  Reflection page – select a classmate to reflect on your choice of scripture verse (Old or New Testament) and your explanation

Ø  What are your views on prayer – is prayer necessary in your life?

Ø  List your favorite prayer and tell why that prayer is special to you

o   Re-write the prayer in your own words

ü  Reflection page – select a family member to respond to your personal prayer

Ø  Select a quote or motto from a religious person, this could be a saint, a pope, a pastor and discuss why you remember this quote, does this quote answer questions or cause you to question things about your faith

Ø  Think about the fears you have, then think about how your relationship with God can help you conquer your fears

Ø  We are all born with original sin and therefore we have a fallen nature.  God has given us a sense of good nature.  Discuss your feelings about the battle between good and evil- then discuss how you as a young person battle the simplest kind of evil.  How are you armed and what do you take into battle with you {these are metaphors that we talked about in class}.  Simply talk about your struggles (not wanting to take out the trash or arguing with a sibling).

ü  Reflection page – have a teacher (could be a former teacher) comment on this page

Ø  The Apostles Creed – what are you saying when you pray the creed.  Do you accept and practice all elements of the creed

Ø  The Blessed Trinity – what a concept – create an analogy or metaphor that bests describes the Trinity

Ø  Create a family tree or timeline of the lineage of Jesus

Ø  Express your knowledge of Church history by creating a technologically based presentation  (with 1 or 2 partners) focusing on one of the movies we’ve watched in class; The Song of Bernadette, The Miracle of Our Lady of Fatima or The Scarlet and the Black.  Use your selection as the basis for your presentation.  You will be given class time for this activity.

Ø  Express your knowledge of Church history by creating a newspaper article of some timely event in Church history (the Inquisition, the Crusades, the ex-communication of Galileo)

Ø  Make connections – Critique religion in the media.  Does it bring you closer to God or does it push you way from God?

Ø  What’s on your mind

o   Here is the section in which you discuss any timely issues, express your view points and state your opinions. There is no right or wrong answers.

Comment page – anyone may leave a (positive/constructive) comment on your thoughts and views (complete comment page before due date)

§  Teacher comment page – I will give you may thoughts on your anthology and give you your grade

Your anthology must be in book form. You may use a journal or a notebook but you may not use loose paper that can easily get lost or out of order.  Be creative when responding by drawing pictures, writing poetry or using lyrics to songs. Make thoughtful choices about how you want to design your anthology.  I want this to be a positive experience for you.  Use the information listed above to be a template of what you must include and the proper order.

All students must complete an anthology.  This anthology will be weighted heavily in your final Religion grade.  Each Friday I will check your progress so bring your work in progress to school on Fridays.

In grading your anthology, I will check to see that you

followed all directions – included all elements – thoroughly completed all elements – used different creative ways to respond – had the reflection pages and comment pages completed – created an anthology that is visually appealing – completed and turned in on time – May 16, 2011 NO EXCEPTIONS
