Each year the 8th grade students have performed a full length musical. Throughout my years here the musicals have included Oliver, Cinderella, Hello Dolly, The Secret Garden and last year, The Boyfriend.
We have a long tradition of presenting stellar musicals and look forward to continuing that tradition this year. Throughout the years the productions have evolved into fully staged musicals in performing in local theaters. The parents worked hard to raise the kind of funds necessary to our productions.
This year we have a very small class which means the burden of fundraising will fall upon a few parents. In order to ease this burden the expenditures for the musical will be cut so that excessive fundraising will not be necessary. Namely the use of an outside venue and costume designer will be eliminated. Some fundraising will still be required for the necessary expenses such as the licensing and rental (of materials) fee, the pianist and the costumes. In the past, we have produced a playbill with ads which will continue.
The quality of the production will not be affected by these adjustments. The 8th grade students will still present a musical that reflects our tradition of excellence.
Each year the 8th graders comment on how the musical is one of their favorite experiences of the school year and that the memories will last a lifetime. The class of 2012 will make those same wonderful memories.
