Dear Parents, 17 August 2011
This letter is designed to give you information regarding homework assignments.
I believe homework is important because it is a valuable tool in the learning process. Homework reinforces what was taught in class, prepares students for upcoming lessons, teaches responsibility and helps students develop good study skills.
Homework will be assigned every night and assignments should take approximately 1 ½ hours to complete each night, this does not include test preparation. Each night, students must read or re-read the assigned section in their current literature book and if time permits, a reading selection of their choice.
Students must complete their own assignments and turn them in on time. All assignments must be neat, completed in black or blue ink only with the proper heading on all pages.
As parents, you are a vital part of making homework a positive experience, therefore, I ask that you make homework a priority at home, provide praise and support, a quiet place to work and make sure that your child has the necessary supplies. Encourage good time management skills and stress the importance of being prepared for the next day’s work. Television, video games and recreational computer use should be weekend activities.
Privileges will be lost and grades will be affected adversely when the homework policy is not followed. Infraction slips will be sent home, Student Referrals will be issued; then, a conference will be scheduled if multiple assignments are missing. If there is a legitimate reason for a missed or late assignment, please send a signed note to me on the day the homework is due stating the reason the assignment was not completed. Consideration will be given based on the circumstance. Reports and projects are assigned well in advance of the due date therefore no consideration will be given if they are late, incomplete or missing.
Please do not allow your child to miss school because they have not completed an assignment. Lack of time management should not be rewarded with a day away from school and extra time to complete an assignment.
I welcome your questions regarding my homework policies.
Thank you for your support,
Mrs. Lisa Widmann
