Dear Parents and Students, 17 August 2011
Welcome back! It is hard to believe that summer vacation has come and gone so quickly. Now we must focus on this, your final year at Good Shepherd.
My name is Mrs. Lisa Widmann and I am the 8th grade teacher. This year will be filled with challenges, excitement, and questions about your academic future. My approach to education is traditional and simplistic as are my expectations of you. I expect you to:
- work hard and do your best at all times
- do your own work
- complete all assignments and turn them in on time
- follow all classroom and school rules
As 8th graders, you will have many privileges; sponsoring the annual All Saints Day Parade and Halloween House, hosting the annual Faculty Thanksgiving Luncheon and performing in the annual 8th grade Musical, to name a few. With these privileges, come responsibilities; being an example of Christian charity and kindness throughout the school, being examples of our SLE’s, and showing respect to all the members of the Good Shepherd faculty and staff. The “little ones” will be looking to you to be their role models, you are expected to rise to this occasion in all that you say and do!
In addition to academics, you will be preparing for High School entrance exams and interviews. This is a tedious process for everyone and I urge you to watch deadlines and not to wait until the last minute to complete your files. We will have mock interviews in the classroom and I suggest that you to have your essay and/or personal statement proof read by any of the junior high teachers. Further information about the high school application process will be addressed during a mandatory 8th grade parents meeting in October.
Specific classroom goals and objectives, curriculum information and expectations will be explained during the upcoming Back to School night. Remember to visit our classroom blog where you can find our class calendar, special projects and activities and class and school news. The blog can be reached through the school’s web-site.
I am looking forward to a wonderful year.
Yours in the Holy Spirit,
Mrs. Lisa Widmann
